What are we measuring?
This measure tracks the accessibility of public libraries in Fulton County.  A library is considered accessible if it is within a 5-mile driving distance of a residence.  The area within a 5-mile driving distance was determined through an analysis using geographic information systems (GIS) software.
How are we doing?
With opening of several new library branches between 2014 and 2016 and several library locations undergoing renovations, the estimated percentage of residents with a 5-mile drive of a branch increased from just under 90% to nearly 95%. In 2019, with the temporary closure of ten branches for renovation, the percentage fell to about 79.7%.  The people most impacted by the temporary closures are residents of South Fulton and Fairburn due to the closure of the Fairburn Branch and residents of Roswell and Sandy Springs due to the closures of the Roswell and Sandy Springs branches.
