What are measuring?
The employment rate among young adults is the annual percentage of residents of Fulton County between the age of 20 and 34 in the labor force who are currently employed.  The rate is an estimate based on the U.S. Census Bureau's latest available American Community Survey data on employment status.
Why is it important?
The employment rate among adults between the ages of 20 and 34 is an indicator of the economic well-being of the young workforce. Residents who fall into this age group are those starting to enter the workforce or in their early career stage.  Apart from the obvious financial impact, research suggests that extended periods of unemployment among young adults can contribute to depression and physical health problems. [1]
How are we doing?
The employment rate among young adult residents increased over 7 percentage points from 85.9 percent to 93.3 percent between 2012 and 2017.   As of 2017, compared to national benchmark counties, Fulton County ranked eighth with the fourth lowest employment rate among young adults. The employments rates for young men and young women in Fulton County were virtually identical in 2017.
